Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the purchase of two (2) triple combination fire pumper trucks from Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc., in the amount of $1,070,045, payable from the capital equipment fund. This purchase is tax exempt for the fire department and will replace Fire Truck Units #7332 and #7322.

The purchasing division posted a request for bids on February 19, 2016, on the city’s website. Bids were to include a base price per unit and separate optional pricing for both three year and five year extensions of the standard one year warranty. Three bids were received by the closing date and referred to the fire department’s apparatus committee. After careful review, the committee is recommending that Council award the purchase to Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc. for two units with the optional three year warranty extension. The bid submitted by Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc., is the lowest responsible bid when the base cost is combined with the three year warranty extension. The bid results are attached as Exhibit A

After selecting the lowest responsible bid, the committee was able to negotiate with Custom Fire for additional modifications to the total cost which lowered the final price for two pumpers with the three year warranty from $1,085,890 to $1,070,045; resulting in a savings to the city of $15,845.
