Title

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A THIRD AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT 22618 WITH TKDA FOR ADDITIONAL DESIGN SERVICES FOR THE WESTERN WATERFRONT CORRIDOR FOREST RESTORATION PROJECT, FOR AN INCREASE OF $17,314 AND AN AMENDED TOTAL NOT TO EXCEED $129,964.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to amend city contract 22618 with TKDA, substantially in the form attached as exhibit A, to include additional design services for the Western Waterfront corridor forest restoration project for an increase of $17,314 and an amended total not to exceed $129,964, payable from fund 452-030-5530 Project HANDHTAX-1501-01 (tourism & recreational projects, finance, improvements other than buildings, half & half tax projects, Western Waterfront, corridor restoration).

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes a third amendment to city contract 22618 for the additional design services necessary to produce construction documents for phase III of the Western Waterfront corridor forest restoration project originally described in TKDA’s proposal dated January 20, 2017, and attached to the amendment as exhibit B-3.

The Western Waterfront corridor forest restoration project is a $575,000 project funded by a $400,000 state grant and $175,000 from the half and half tax. The purpose of the project is to restore the ecological function of the landscape along the Western Waterfront Trail and adjacent waterfront. Extensive infestations of buckthorn and other invasive plants had separated the trail visually and physically from the river. The project restores the river views and river access the Western Waterfront Trail was designed to provide.

This contract amendment is not due to unexpected cost overruns. Instead, the cost to complete the originally envisioned project was so much less than originally expected that there is enough grant money remaining to expand the scope of the project. This contract amendment authorizes design services for the expanded scope of work.
