RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE A THREE-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 709 FOR THE DULUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE FOUR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS AND ONE COMMUNITY POLICING SERGEANT IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR A TOTAL OF $1,077,096.08 FOR THE 2025-2028 SCHOOL YEARS.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with Independent School District No. 709 to provide four school resource officers and a community policing sergeant in the public schools, said agreement to be substantially in the form of the attached Document A; payments from the school district to be deposited in Fund No. 110-160-1610-4261 (general, police, administration and investigation, Independent School District 709).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes an agreement between the city of Duluth and ISD No. 709 under which the city will provide law enforcement officers in the public schools. This is a three-year agreement for the 2025-2028 school years. ISD No. 709 will pay the city $84,834 per officer in school year 2025-2026 for a total of $339,336.00 for four officers. ISD No. 709 will pay the city $88,652.00 per officer in school year 2026-2027 for a total of $354,606.00. ISD No. 709 will pay the city $93,084.00 per officer in school year 2027-2028 for a total of $372,336.00. Additionally, ISD No. 709 will pay the city $3,443.00 for one community policing sergeant in school year 2025-2026 and the sum of $3,598.00 for school year 2026-2027, and the sum of $3,777 for school year 2027-2028. Payments will be made on September 1st and February 15th of each year. This is a renewal agreement beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.
