CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept a $5,000 grant from the Minneapolis Foundation, said funds to be deposited into 110-132-1301-4660 (General Fund, Planning & Construction Services, Planning & Development, Gifts & Donations), for Duluth's Complete Count Committee to raise awareness about and increase participation in the 2020 census.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolutions authorizes the proper city officials to accept a $5,000 grant from the Minneapolis Foundation to raise awareness and increase participation in the 2020 census. Grant funds will support work of the Complete Count Committee, staffed by the city's Planning and Development division. Work supported by this grant includes: digital organizing, efforts to target historically undercounted communities, and targeted digital and phone outreach to residents in areas with low census response rates.
Community members have begun filling out the 2020 census questionnaire and will continue to do so through August 2020. Census data is used to allocate federal and state funding as well as draw voting districts for local, state, and federal representation, thus the importance of an accurate and complete count. The Complete Count Committee is composed of a cross section of community members who are utilizing their local knowledge and expertise to reach out to all persons of our community. A united voice from business, government, community based and faith-based organizations, educators, and the media will enable 2020 census messaging to reach more of our community members and help Duluth complete an accurate count.
