RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF FIREFIGHTER.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of firefighter, which were approved by the civil service board on March 1, 2016, are approved.  This classification shall remain subject to the city’s collective bargaining agreement with its fire unit employees and compensated at Pay Range 226, $3,598 to $4,788 per month.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This existing classification was revised to make updates to the license requirements and add appropriate knowledge and skill requirements not previously listed.  The driver's license requirement was adjusted to become a preferred requirement, and the language regarding providing proof of passing the CPAT test within previous six months of "the application period closing date" has been updated to allow applicants until the written exam date to provide HR with proof of passing the CPAT.  The position will continue to safeguard lives and property by fighting and preventing fires.  There is no change in the rate of pay, which is Range 226, $3,598 to $4,788 per month.
