RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH ZEITGEIST CENTER FOR ARTS AND COMMUNITY FOR JOINT CONSTRUCTION OF A PEDESTRIAN ISLAND AND MEDIAN ALONG 6TH AVENUE EAST.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with the Zeitgeist Center for Arts and Community for the joint construction of a pedestrian island and median along 6th Avenue East between East 5th Street and East 9th Street; pursuant to which the City will construct the improvements and the Zeitgeist Center for Arts and Community will reimburse the City for its share of costs up to $78,300. Such reimbursement is to be payable to Fund 440, city project number 2195.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the City to enter into an agreement with the Zeitgeist Center for Arts and Community (“Zeitgeist”) for the joint construction of a pedestrian island and median along 6th Avenue East between East 5th Street and East 9th Street. Zeitgeist obtained a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to make pedestrian improvements to the 6th Avenue East right-of-way and worked with the City to incorporate those improvements into the City’s 6th Avenue East Reconditioning Project where other street improvements will also be constructed. The work requested by Zeitgeist is a center median island that is larger than the planned scope of the City’s project.

As has been done on past joint projects, the City contracts for the construction of the project and Zeitgeist will reimburse the City for its share of the costs up to the $78,300 that was received for the grant.
