RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF UTILITY OPERATOR APPRENTICE.

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of utility operator apprentice (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on March 4, 2025, are approved. This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall change to Range 27A to Range 30, pay rate of $4,655 to $6,140 per month, from Range 25A to Range 28, pay rate of $4,324 to $5,646 per month.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The existing classification of utility operator apprentice has been revised to correlate with the Utility Operator job description changes based on an audit filed on behalf of the Utility Operators. The major/primary changes to the job description include language to reflect technology changes, evolution of general duties over time and to better articulate the unique expectation that these operators have to understand all four utilities including sanitary, storm, water, and gas maintenance. The pay range negotiated for this classification is Range 27A to Range 30, pay rate of $4,655 to $6,140 per month. This is a change from Range 25A to Range 28, pay rate of $4,324 to $5,646 per month.
