RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT WITH DAMBERG SCOTT GERZINA WAGNER ARCHITECTS, INC. DBA DSGW ARCHITECTS FOR PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION SERVICES FOR THE LAKE SUPERIOR ZOO BLACK BEAR EXHIBIT AREA FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $73,384.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to contract with Damberg Scott Gerzina Wagner Architects, Inc. dba DSGW Architects, substantially in the form attached as Exhibit A, for professional architectural design and construction administration services for a total contract amount not to exceed $73,384, payable from 452-030-5530; HANDHTAX-1502 (Tourism & Recreational Projects, Finance, Improvements Other than Buildings; Half & Half Tax Projects - Zoo Restoration).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes a contract with DSGW Architects, for professional architectural design and construction administration services necessary for the renovation and rehabilitation of the former grizzly bear and puma exhibit spaces on the western side of Kingsbury Creek at the Lake Superior Zoo. The project includes site work in the former bear exhibit, new glass and glass framework, repairs and upgrades to the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, additional insulation, new gates, and other improvements.
The Lake Superior Zoological Society (the “Society”) entered into an agreement with DSGW on December 27, 2018 to begin design work on the project, and to date the Society has paid $43,564 of the total contract amount of $73,384. This agreement incorporates the Society’s agreement and all work performed under that agreement, and adds the additional final design and coordination services needed to complete the project and additional funds in the amount of $29,820 from the general bond obligation grant awarded to the City for the renovation and rehabilitation of the Lake Superior Zoo.
