RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE NEW CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF PROPERTY & EVIDENCE TECHNICIAN - SEXUAL ASSAULT KIT INITIATIVE (SAKI), AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proposed specifications for the new civil service classification of property & evidence technician - sexual assault kit initiative (SAKI), attached as Exhibit A, which were approved by the civil service board on December 6, 2016, are approved; that said classification shall be subject to the city’s collective bargaining agreement with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Range 24, $3,251 to $3,796 per month.  The proper city officials are authorized to execute and implement an agreement with the union to provide for employing one or more unit members consistent with this resolution.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The new classification of property & evidence technician - sexual assault kit initiative (SAKI) has been created to fulfill a federal grant that the police department secured. This position is similar in nature to the property & evidence technician classification, with a focus on sexual assault kits.  This federal grant will be re-evaluated every three years.  The pay range negotiated for the classification is Range 24, $3,251 to $3,796 per month.
