RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PLANNING FOR THE RE-IMAGINED WESTERN DULUTH BUSINESS CORRIDOR AND SPIRIT VALLEY CENTER FOR YOUTH AND COMMUNITY WELLNESS PROJECT.

Body

BY PRESIDENT KENNEDY:

WHEREAS, the Western Duluth Business corridor is vitally important to the economic wellbeing of the city and has, in the past, yielded the fourth highest tax base revenue in the city of Duluth; and

WHEREAS, recently the Western Duluth Business corridor has become less desirable and unsafe due to aging infrastructure and the flood in 2012; and

WHEREAS, with the collaboration of the community and stakeholders, the Western Duluth Business corridor can be transformed to be a thriving influence on the community.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the council requests the support and collaboration of the city administration along with, community organizations, non-profits and businesses, to reinvest, plan, and implement transformative change in the Western Duluth Business corridor.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, this planning process includes all zip codes and neighborhoods of district five.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the council urges the city administration to support the construction of the Spirit Valley Center for Youth and Community Wellness project; and include a possible regional sports venue, in the city’s request for bonding support in 2025.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution supports planning for the Re-Imagine Western Duluth Business Corridor and continued support for the Spirit Valley Center for Youth and Community Wellness project; promoting collaboration with the City of Duluth, community organizations, non-profits, and businesses to plan and implement transformative change in the fifth district.
