RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF AN URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY PROGRAM GRANT FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $150,000 TO SUPPORT LAKE SUPERIOR ZOO GROUNDS REVITALIZATION

CITY PROPOSAL:
WHEREAS, the City of Duluth owns the Lake Superior Zoological Gardens (the "Zoo"), which are managed and operated through a Zoo Management Agreement by the Arrowhead Zoological Society, Inc. as approved by City Council through resolution 16-0436R; and
WHEREAS, the State legislature approved a direct appropriation of $150,000 to the City of Duluth for the Lake Superior Zoo that will be administered through the Minnesota Urban and Community Forestry Program; and
WHEREAS, the funding awarded for the Lake Superior Zoo will support the Arrowhead Zoological Society, Inc. and City of Duluth's collaborative goal of tree planting and site improvements that will benefit animals at the Zoo and improve the visitor experience.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper City officials are hereby authorized to accept and execute a grant contract agreement, substantially in the form attached as Exhibit A, with the State of Minnesota for an amount not to exceed $150,000 to support Lake Superior Zoo grounds revitalization with said funds to be deposited into 200-130-4220-02 (Lake Superior Zoo fund, community resources, State of Minnesota operating).
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Duluth City Council names the fiscal agent for this project as Jen Carlson, City of Duluth Finance Director, 411 West First Street, Duluth, MN 55802.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes acceptance and execution of a grant contract agreement with the State of Minnesota for an amount not to exceed $150,000 to support Lake Superior Zoo grounds revitalization.
