RESOLUTION CREATING A FIRE DEPARTMENT FUND WITHIN THE CITY’S SPECIAL PROJECTS SPECIAL REVENUE FUND AND COMMITTING CERTAIN RESOURCES FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

CITY PROPOSAL:
WHEREAS, the City receives certain proceeds from various entities in support of the Fire Department.
WHEREAS, the City budgets for the Fire Department as part of the City’s operating budget, but currently does not have a fund dedicated to special one-time proceeds such as the state’s public safety bill.
WHEREAS, by creating a fund for the Fire Department, these proceeds can be held year over year as the Department creates a plan to sustainably fund future needs.
WHEREAS, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board Statement No. 54 requires the city council to take action to commit resources for a designated purpose.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that a Fire Department Fund be created within the city's Special Projects Special Revenue Fund - Fire Department (Fund 210-030-3211) to pay for costs associated with public safety, community engagement, mental health crisis response, training programs, first responder wellness, equipment, pay, facility improvements and other related expenditures.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Fire Department’s portion of the revenues from the Public Safety Bill be committed as a funding source for the newly created Fire Department Fund.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution creates a Fire Department Fund to pay for costs associated with public safety, community engagement, mental health crisis response, training programs, first responder wellness, equipment, pay, facility improvements and other related expenditures. The fund will be overseen by the Fire Department.
