Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution amends contract 30851 with Hess, Roise and Company LTD. for cultural resource consulting services related to planned improvements to Waabizheshikana - The Marten Trail - by an amount of $15,605.00. This amendment is necessary to provide additional research and analysis mandated by the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office as part of the Section 106 federal project review process. Funds for the contract are sourced from that portion of the proceeds of a one-half-of-one-percent increment in Duluth’s tourism taxes that Council apportioned to extension of Waabizheshikana - The Marten Trail - as part of the St. Louis River Corridor Initiative.

The Waabizheshikana: The Marten Trail extension and improvement project will double the length of the trail adding three miles from the current terminus at Spring Street in the Riverside neighborhood to and through the Smithville and Morgan Park neighborhoods to a point just northeast of Mud Lake.
