RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF UTILITY OPERATOR.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of utility operator (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on March 4, 2025, are approved. This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall change to Range 30, pay rate of $62,559 to $73,678 per year, from Range 28, pay rate of $58,115 to $67,752 per year.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The existing classification of utility operator has been revised to reflect technology changes, evolution of general duties over time and to better articulate the unique expectation that these operators have to know all four utilities including sanitary, storm, water, and gas maintenance. The pay range negotiated for this classification is Range 30, pay rate of $62,559 to $73,678 per year. This is a change from Range 28, pay rate of $58,115 to $67,752 per year.
