Title

RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE PRIVATIZATION OF LESTER PARK AND ENGER PARK GOLF COURSES.

Body

BY COUNCILOR FOSLE:

WHEREAS, the city operates two municipal golf courses, Lester Park and Enger Park; and

WHEREAS, the two municipal golf courses lost money in 2017; and

WHEREAS, both golf courses require extensive capital improvements; and

WHEREAS, all or part of Lester Park and Enger Park golf courses could be sold or leased out to reduce the city’s annual subsidy and capital expenses, increase the tax base, create more housing opportunities, and preserve public golf in Duluth for the long-term.

THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the city council supports the city administration pursuing a thoughtful plan to sell, lease or otherwise privatize all or part of Lester Park and Enger Park golf courses to preserve public golf for the long-term while also promoting other city objectives like housing and increasing the tax base.

Statement of Purpose
