RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE MARSHAL.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of fire marshal (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on April 5, 2022, are approved. This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its fire unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall remain Range 233, pay rate of $7,438 per month.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The existing classification of fire marshal was revised to incorporate new job description template language and to allow more opportunity for employees to be qualified to apply for this promotional position. By changing the requirements to five years as a career firefighter and three years of verifiable professional experience to include leadership as a primary responsibility, we can include employees who come from other departments or career fields or those that have skills outside of Duluth fire department. There is no change in the pay range, which is Range 233, pay rate of $7,438 per month.
