RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT WITH THE DULUTH TRANSIT AUTHORITY FOR SERVICES AND FUNDING OF ONE COMMUNITY BASED K-9 OFFICER FOR FIVE YEARS AND ACCEPTING $112,801.50 ANNUALLY PLUS A THREE PERCENT ANNUAL INCREASE THEREAFTER TO FUND SAID POSITION.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to execute an agreement, substantially the same as the attached Document A, with the Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) to fund one community based K-9 police officer together with a canine partner trained in explosives detection, for and over a period of five years and accepting $112,801.50 annually plus a three percent annual increase thereafter, said K-9 officer to work with the DTA to improve transit riders’ safety, reduce crime and disorder, and improve quality of life to all areas serviced by the DTA at bus stops, hubs, on buses and other modes of transportation, funds to be deposited into fund number 215-200-2212-4264 (Duluth Police Grant Programs, Police, DTA Community Officer, Duluth Transit Authority).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to execute an agreement with the Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) for the services and funding for five years of a community based K-9 officer and canine partner assigned primarily to DTA sites. The K-9 officer will work with the DTA to improve transit riders’ safety, reduce crime and disorder, and improve quality of life to all areas serviced by the DTA at bus stops, hubs, on buses and other modes of transportation.
