Title

ORDINANCE REPEALING CHAPTER 29E OF THE DULUTH CITY CODE REGULATING EARNED SICK AND SAFE TIME.

Body

BY COUNCILORS FORSMAN, HOBBS AND TOMANEK:

The city of Duluth does ordain:

Section 1.                      That Chapter 29E of the Duluth City Code pertaining to earned sick and safe time is hereby repealed.

Section 2.                     That this ordinance shall take effect 30 days after its passage and publication.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this ordinance is to repeal the city’s earned sick and safe time regulation, Chapter 29E. Minnesota enacted a statewide earned sick and safe time (ESST) law which goes into effect on January 1, 2024, and makes the city’s ordinance unnecessary.  The city of Duluth recognizes the important role the Duluth ordinance has played in helping elevate this issue to a state level.
