RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY IN THE AMOUNT OF $63,500 FOR THE 2024 TRAFFIC SAFETY VEHICLE GRANT TO SUPPORT THE LAKE SUPERIOR TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT TEAM PARTNER AGENCIES.

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept an award from the state of Minnesota, department of public safety, in the amount of $63,500 and to execute a grant agreement substantially the same as the attached Document A. Such funds are to be used to reimburse the Duluth police department and other Lake Superior traffic enforcement team participants for the purchase of a traffic safety vehicle to use used during traffic enforcement of speed, distracted and impaired driving, seat belt and move over enforcement. Funds to be deposited in Fund No. 215-200-2244-4210-02 (Duluth Police Grant Programs, Police, Traffic Safety Vehicle Grant, Pass Thru Federal Grants Operating) and expenses to be paid from Fund 215-200-2244-5580 (Duluth Police Grant Programs, Police, Traffic Safety Vehicle Grant, Capital Equipment).

                     

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The Duluth Police Department is the designated recipient and fiscal agent of a 2024 Traffic Safety Vehicle Grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety in the total amount of $63,500. This is new grant program that provides federal funding to support the Lake Superior Traffic Enforcement Team. This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to accept and execute the grant agreement. The grant monies will be used to purchase a traffic safety vehicle to be used during traffic enforcement waves funded by the Towards Zero Deaths grant agreement. The grant period is April 30, 2024 through June 30, 2025.
