CITY PROPOSAL:
WHEREAS, the Lakewalk Interpretive Plan defined specific elements and common themes for interpretation along the Baywalk and Lakewalk from Bayfront Festival Park to Kitchi Gammi Park (Brighton Beach), and was approved and authorized for implementation as funding allows on June 26, 2023 through resolution 23-0494R.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper City officials are hereby authorized to submit an application to the Minnesota Historical Society for up to $166,000 from the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants Program to implement portions of the Lakewalk Interpretive Plan.

FURTHER RESOLVED, the City of Duluth has the legal authority to accept these funds and the financial, technical, and managerial capacity to ensure proper planning and maintenance of the project. There is no match required for these funds.

FURTHER RESOLVED, the Duluth City Council names the fiscal agent for this project as Jen Carlson, City of Duluth Finance Director, 411 West 1st Street, Duluth, Minnesota 55802.

Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes application to the Minnesota Historical Society Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants Program for up to $166,000 to implement portions of the Lakewalk Interpretive Plan. There is no match required for the grant program.

The Minnesota Historical Society grant funding will support the creation and installation of 22 freestanding interpretive signs and four bronze model ships as described in the Lakewalk Interpretive Plan, which was adopted through resolution 23-0494R.
