RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF A MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT OF $198,398.48 FOR ACQUISITION AND DEMOLITION OF A STRUCTURE AT 13005 CASS STREET.

CITY PROPOSAL:

                     RESOLVED, that the property city officials are hereby authorized to accept a grant, substantially in the form of the attached Exhibit A, from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management in the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for a Hazard Mitigation Grant of $198,398.48 for acquisition and demolition of a structure at 13005 Cass Street.

                     FURTHER RESOLVED, the city of Duluth has the legal authority to accept the money, and the financial, technical and managerial capacity to ensure proper planning and maintenance of the project.

                     FURTHER RESOLVED, the city will provide the required twenty-five percent match from administrative and project-related soft costs, including in-kind staff time.

                     FURTHER RESOLVED, the Duluth city council names the fiscal agent for this project as Jen Carlson, City of Duluth Finance Director, 411 West First Street, Duluth, MN 55802.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this resolution is to authorize acceptance from the Minnesota Department of Public safety for a Hazard Mitigation Grant of $198,398.48 for acquisition and demolition of the structure at 13005 Cass Street.

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program helps local governments reduce or eliminate risk to property and loss of life from future natural disasters following a Presidential major disaster declaration.

The City will fulfill the required 25% match by investing $66,132.83 in the project from administrative and project-related soft costs.
