CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of lateral firefighter (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on December 3, 2024, are approved. This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its fire unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall remain Range 226 Step E, pay rate of $6,206 per month.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The existing classification of lateral firefighter was revised to remove language that was added in 2021 to accommodate for the closure or limited hours at CPAT testing facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it is no longer relevant. Additionally, the previous CPAT language required candidates to submit CPAT results from a test taken within the previous six months; the timeframe for the requirement has been increased to 12 months to allow candidates more time to complete their CPAT and gives the City the potential to broaden the applicant pool. There is no change in the pay range, which is Range 226 Step E, pay rate of $6,206 per month.
