Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the purchase of a 2024 Vactor 2100i from MacQueen Equipment, Inc for an amount of $562,189.69, pricing on MN State Contract 191951, Release W-196(5).

The unit will replace Unit 2877. Unit 2877 is an International Vactor purchased in 2010 for $352,585.29. Unit 2877 has incurred $247,648.00 in maintenance costs to date and has exceeded its recommended replacement age by three years.

Unit 2877 will be used as a trade-in which reduced the purchase price by $50,000.00.

The main purpose of a combination unit (Vactor) is to perform the six-year sanitary basin cleaning list for all of the sanitary lines throughout the city. It is used to do twice yearly Lift Station cleanings of all 51 stations and respond to any Fond Du Lac grinder station cleanings. City of Duluth utility construction crews use them to help excavate city utilities without the need of a One Call.

This purchase is part of the Utility Operations Rolling Stock plan for 2024.
