RESOLUTION NAMING THE LINCOLN PARK STONE PAVILION IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF COUNCILOR RENEE VAN NETT.

BY COUNCILORS FORSMAN, TOMANEK,  ALSTEAD AND PRESIDENT KENNEDY:

                     WHEREAS, the city council wishes to acknowledge and express its appreciation for Renee Van Nett for her dedicated service to the city of Duluth; and

                     WHEREAS, as a city councilor for District 4, Renee Van Nett devoted her time, energy and talents serving in particular the Lincoln Park, Piedmont and Duluth Height communities; and

                     WHEREAS, Renee Van Nett fought for equality, justice, and inclusion as a city councilor and as the first Indigenous council president in 2021; and

                     WHEREAS, Renee Van Nett was a member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and had strong connections to the cultural and spiritual ways of the Anishinaabe people, demonstrating those values in everything she did; and

WHEREAS, Renee Van Nett demonstrated excellence, courage, and exceptional service to the city and citizens of Duluth and will serve as an inspiration to all who live, work and visit the city of Duluth: and

WHEREAS, on June 14, 2023, the parks and recreation commission unanimously voted in support of the commemorative naming of the Lincoln Park stone pavilion in honor and memory of Councilor Renee Van Nett.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lincoln Park stone pavilion is named the “Renee Van Nett Pavilion” in honor and memory of Councilor Renee Van Nett.

                     

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to honor late Duluth City Councilor Renee Van Nett for her service to all Duluthians by naming the Lincoln Park Stone Pavilion in her honor.
