RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT L30228 WITH KRAUS ANDERSON CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER SERVICES FOR THE ZOO BEAR COUNTRY EXHIBIT RENOVATION FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $85,800.
Body
CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to amend agreement L30228 with Kraus Anderson Construction Company, in the form substantially attached as Exhibit A, for Construction Manager Services for the Zoo Bear Country Exhibit Renovation for an amount not to exceed $85,800, payable from fund 452-030-5530-HANDHTAX-1502 (tourism & recreational projects; finance; improvements other than buildings; half & half tax projects - zoo restoration).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes an amendment, substantially in the format attached as Exhibit A, for Construction Manager Services for the Zoo Bear Country Exhibit Renovation.
Kraus Anderson is providing construction management services for the Lake Superior Zoo Bear Country project. The project was originally intended to occur all at one time, but changed to a phased approach - implementing the black bear portion of the renovation first while the brown bear portion was still in design. The brown bear renovation is currently in progress, targeted to open at the end of summer 2020. Because Kraus Anderson has been using their contracted time to manage what is essentially two projects rather than one, they will need additional superintendent and coordinator time in order to complete the brown bear renovation.
Original Total Amount: $394,675
Current Amendment: $85,800
New Total Contract Amount: $480,475
This is part of the $3.8 million Bear Country project which is funded through a combination of $1.9 million in state bonding dollars and a $1.9 million local match from the half-and-half tourism tax. The entire project is on pace to come in on budget. In the event of budget overages, Lake Superior Zoological Society is responsible to pay 100% of any and all costs in excess of $3.8 million.
