Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the proper city officials to accept a reimbursement grant from the Minnesota department of labor and industry occupational safety and health consultation unit for the city of Duluth utility operations division of the public works and utilities department. The city will spend approximately $22,300 on two new aluminum trench boxes, and MNOSHA will reimburse the city at a fifty-percent rate, with a maximum grant amount of $10,000. The trench boxes will be used by utility operations staff to secure trench walls in order to avoid trench cave-ins while staff are repairing or replacing underground utility infrastructure.
