RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH LHB, INC. FOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SERVICES TO PROVIDE DESIGN SERVICES FOR A DECK GRATING ASSESSMENT, SIDEWALK ASSESSMENT AND REPAINTING DESIGN AND PLANS FOR THE DULUTH AERIAL LIFT BRIDGE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $78,578.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with LHB, Inc. to provide professional engineering design services for a deck grating assessment, sidewalk assessment and repainting design with plans for the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge in an amount not to exceed $78,578, payable from Permanent Improvement Fund 411, Department 035 (Capital Projects Accounts), Object 5530 (Improvements Other than Buildings), city project no. 1015, requisition no. 16-0206.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution will authorize an agreement with LHB, Inc. for professional engineering services for a deck grating assessment, sidewalk assessment and repainting design with plans for the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge.
This project will involve performing an analysis of the existing bridge deck grating and sidewalks to determine what repairs are necessary. The project will also include preparations of detailed plans and specifications for a bridge repainting project. Upon completion of this project the functionality and sustainability of the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge for Duluth residents and visitors alike will be substantially enhanced. Due to the scope and complexity of the project we request that a consultant engineer be hired to provide professional engineering design services for this project.
LHB, Inc. has provided professional engineering services for the three previous phases of construction at the Aerial Lift Bridge. Due to their unique experience and familiarity with the bridge, LHB, Inc. was the sole firm from which a proposal for Phase 4 professional engineering services was solicited.
