Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to enter into a two-year agreement substantially in the form of Exhibit A with Duluth Area Family YMCA (YMCA) to provide outside of school time programming at the city’s Gary New Duluth Community Center for youth in far western Duluth and providing for the payment of $20,000 per year, payments to be made from Fund 205-130-1219-5310 (Parks, Community Resources, Parks Operating, Contract Services).

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes a two-year agreement (Exhibit A) for professional services with YMCA for outside of school time youth programming for youth in far western Duluth. This program will be based at the Gary New Duluth Community Center and continue the programming that Valley Youth Center began operating in the community center in 2015. Under the terms of the agreement, YMCA will facilitate a program which will provide a safe, structured environment for the youth in this area of the city.  The program will also provide the youth with educational opportunities, as well as, development of health and life skills, positive adult role model interaction, and recreation activities.  Funds for this agreement are made available from the parks fund, voted on by Duluth citizens in November 2011.  A specific portion of the parks fund is allocated for youth programming.
