Title

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A TWO-YEAR LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH EXPLORE MINNESOTA FOR A BIKE TUNE-UP STATION ON PARK POINT AT LAFAYETTE SQUARE.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to execute a two-year license agreement, substantially the same as the agreement attached as Exhibit 1, with Explore Minnesota for the installation and maintenance of a bike tune-up station on Park Point at Lafayette Square, located at 3026 Minnesota Avenue, at no cost to the city.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes a two-year license agreement with Explore Minnesota for the installation and maintenance of one bike tune-up station at Lafayette Square on Park Point.  The station will offer tools and an air compressor tire pump for quick and easy bike maintenance to members of the community.  An example bike tune-up station is depicted on Exhibit B to the attached agreement.

The City will install a concrete slab at a specified location at Lafayette Square, and Explore Minnesota will install the bike tune-up station and provide the tools needed for bicycle repairs.  Explore Minnesota will also maintain the tune-up station and equipment during the term of the license agreement, at no cost to the City.  Explore Minnesota may assign some of its duties under the agreement to Pedal Minnesota, Health Partners, and Continental Ski and Bike, but remains responsible for all maintenance obligations during the term of the agreement.

Pedal Minnesota, a function of Explore Minnesota, provides bike tune-up stations throughout Minnesota.  Pedal Minnesota promotes healthy lifestyles by encouraging people to get on bikes and serves as a go-to resource for everything biking in Minnesota.  The bike tune-up station at Lafayette Square will be a valuable asset to the community and a great tool to bicyclists.
