CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with Independent School District No. 709, substantially in the form of Exhibit B attached hereto, to accept reimbursement from Independent School District No. 709 for one-half the actual total project cost of constructing a rectangular rapid flashing beacon system at the intersection of North 40th Avenue East and Luverne Street, in an estimated amount of $10,000, payable to Street Lighting Fund 550, Department 120 (Public Administration), Source 4654-02 (Other Reimbursements Refunds), City Project Number 1609.


Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution will authorize an agreement with Independent School District 709 to accept reimbursement from Independent School District 709 for one-half the actual total project cost for constructing a rectangular rapid flashing beacon system at the intersection of North 40th Avenue East and Luverne Street.
40th Avenue East adjacent to East High School is a heavily-traveled thoroughfare, especially during times coinciding with the opening and closing of the school day, during which times both school and non-school related traffic pose a hazard to pedestrians crossing 40th Avenue East. The City and Independent School District 709 jointly reviewed the area and came up with one way to help make both pedestrians and drivers more aware of the conflict. One solution is to install a rectangular rapid flashing beacon system to enhance the existing crosswalk across North 40th Avenue East.
