Title

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CITY OFFICIALS TO ALLOW OFFICER TOMLIN TO PURCHASE A POLICE CANINE NAMED KOBRA.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the city of Duluth will allow Officer Kevin Tomlin of the city of Duluth police department to purchase the police canine named Kobra for $5,500.00, funds to be deposited in fund number 210-030-3123-4660 (Police Special Project, Finance, K-9 Account, Gift & Donation).

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to execute any documents necessary to transfer ownership of Kobra to Kevin Tomlin.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The police canine, Kobra, will be retired from service with the Duluth police department when his handler, Officer Kevin Tomlin, leaves employment with the city on February 17, 2017.  Although it is possible that Kobra could provide 2 to 4 more years of service to the police department, his current age together with the requirements of training with a new handler make him unsuitable.  Accordingly, Officer Tomlin will pay the city $5,500.00 for Kobra and the money will be allocated towards the purchase of a new dog for the canine unit.
