RESOLUTION GRANTING APPROVAL AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GATE, WAYFINDING AND SIGNAGE FINAL DESIGN PLAN.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that city council hereby approves the Gate, Wayfinding and Signage Final Design Plan for Duluth parks and trails, a copy of which is attached hereto as exhibit A, and authorizes application of the design in city parks and trails as funding becomes available.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution approves the Gate, Wayfinding and Signage Final Design Plan, attached hereto as exhibit A. The resolution approves the application of the design standards in Duluth city parks and trails as funding becomes available. The purpose of the plan is to better serve Duluth’s residents and visitors, address public safety concerns and protect sensitive resources within the park and trail system.

The plan will be implemented over a period of many years on a site by site basis in association with replacement of old signage, restoration of existing parks and trails, and creation of new parks and trails. The restored Chambers Grove Park and the restored Western Waterfront Trail will be among the first park and trail assets to receive the new signage system.

The design process included two public meetings, online engagement and a two-week long public survey period. The parks and recreation commission unanimously approved that plan at their March 8, 2017 meeting.
