Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

WHEREAS, on February 27, 2017, the city council passed Resolution 17-0187 calling for more recycling bins on city property and the city of Duluth is committed to the development of recycling programs and environmentally sustainable practices in our park systems; and

WHEREAS, the Keep America Beautiful Recycling Bin Program grant will allow for expansion of existing recycling bin infrastructure for the city of Duluth by providing recycling bins at the specified locations attached hereto as exhibit A.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to accept the Keep America Beautiful Recycling Bin Program grant award and are hereby authorized to enter into the grant agreement, attached hereto as exhibit B, with Dr. Pepper Snapple Group.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes acceptance of a Keep America Beautiful Recycling Bin Program grant from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group in the form of 60 recycling bins, including their shipping, provided at no cost to the city of Duluth. The value of each recycling bin is $61, with a total grant value of $3660. The city of Duluth park maintenance division is committed to environmentally sustainable practices within Duluth’s parks systems, including recycling, and this grant award would expand the existing recycling bin infrastructure. The containers would be strategically placed throughout the city of Duluth’s park system, mainly next to existing trash receptacle locations to maintain the current collection schedule. Park maintenance anticipates minimal impact to their current operation, and will track the usage of these containers in accordance with the grant agreement.
