RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF FIREFIGHTER.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of firefighter, which were approved by the civil service board on July 11, 2017, are approved.  This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its fire unit employees and compensated at Pay Range 226, $3,679 to $4,896 per month.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The existing classification of firefighter was revised to make updates to the license requirements, to clarify the education and experience requirements, and to add the ability to read medical reports and utilize technology.  The EMT license was moved from the ability requirements section in the job description to a listed license requirement.  The statement "or equivalent combination of education and experience" was removed from the education and experience requirements section to clarify applicant requirements.  The ability to write and understand fire and medical reports was also added, along with the ability to use advancing technology.  The position will continue to safeguard lives and property by fighting and preventing fires and performing rescues under crisis and threatening situations.  There is no change in the rate of pay, which is Range 226, $3,679 to $4,896 per month.
