RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE NEW CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF PROJECT TECHNICIAN, AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proposed specifications for the new civil service classification of project technician (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on July 11, 2017, are approved; that said classification shall be subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Range 27, $3,753 to $4,392 per month. The proper city officials are authorized to execute and implement an agreement with the union to provide for employing one or more unit members consistent with this resolution.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The new classification of project technician has been created to support and coordinate project work activities of personnel and contractors/vendors to ensure satisfactory completion of assigned project administrative and management duties, for planning, construction and maintenance projects and activities in support of city operations. An ongoing need exists for project assistance within the property and facilities management, parks and recreation, and park maintenance divisions. The current project workload across these three divisions is substantial and additional assistance is required. This is an entry level project management role designed to work closely with and assist division project management teams. Given the content of the job description, this position would have the ability to perform project management work across all city departments and divisions. The pay range negotiated for the classification is Range 27, $3,753 to $4,392 per month.
