CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to contract with Crysteel Truck and Equipment for the purchase of a 2018 Mack cab and chassis and a Lemco Model 8000 log loader for an amount not to exceed $210,802 payable from 250-015-2017-5580; CE250-V1705 (Capital Equipment, Public Administration, Fiscal Year 2017, Capital Equipment; Capital Equipment Fund 250, Park Maintenance - Log Truck Loader).
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the purchase of a 2018 Mack cab and chassis with a Lemco Model 8000 log loader from Crysteel Truck and Equipment.
This unit is intended to replace log Unit 3148, which was purchased in 1998 at a cost of $83,070 and has incurred maintenance expenses of over $125,630. Unit 3148 was scheduled for replacement in 2016.
This piece of equipment is the City’s workhorse for critical City-wide tree services including emergency pruning and clearing of down, damaged, and diseased trees on City roads, parks, and properties. The need for a reliable, effective, and efficient log loading truck is increasing with the onset of EAB and the increasing frequency of storm-related tree damage. Tree work is one of the most dangerous jobs performed by City employees. This unit will also provide a modern and safer tool with which to perform the work.
This purchase is against Minnesota State Contract Release T-647(5), contract number 124649.
