CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to apply jointly to the Minnesota Department of Transportation for a Highway Freight Program Grant in the estimated amount of $20,000,000 to fund the reconstruction and extension of Courtland Street between 27th Avenue West and Garfield Avenue, and the reconstruction of the 27th Avenue West bridge over I-35 (city project no. 1596) and

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Minnesota Department of Transportation hereby pledges to fund the local matching share of the proposed improvements to Courtland Street, total cost of which is estimated to be $8,500,000, and which local matching share is estimated to be $1,700,000.

Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the city to join with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in applying to the Minnesota Department of Transportation for a Highway Freight Program Grant to make improvements to Courtland Street between 27th Avenue West and Garfield Avenue, and reconstruct the 27th Avenue West bridge over I-35.

The project will provide a connection between 27th Avenue West and Garfield Avenue. The total estimated cost of this project is $20,000,000. The Minnesota Department of Transportation will provide the local matching share of the funding for the Courtland Street portion in the amount of $1,700,000.

The benefit of this project is the construction of a secondary access for the Garfield Avenue and Railroad Street area for both the waterfront and the port.
