RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A DONATION AGREEMENT WITH CAPTAIN LAURENCE H. GRIMES, JR. RELATED TO A SCALE MODEL OF THE AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORT DOCK SHIP USS DULUTH AND ITS DISPLAY CASE AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH ST. LOUIS COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO DISPLAY THE USS DULUTH

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper City officials are hereby authorized to enter into a Donation Agreement, substantially in the form of that attached hereto as exhibit A, with Captain Laurence H. Grimes, Jr. pursuant to which Captain Grimes conveys to the City and the City accepts a scale model of the USS Duluth and its display case.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proper City officials are hereby authorized to enter into an Agreement, substantially in the form of that attached hereto as exhibit B, with the St. Louis County Historical Society (the "Historical Society") pursuant to which the Historical Society agrees to display the USS Duluth in the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the "Depot").
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The USS Duluth is an Austin-class amphibious transport dock ship which served the nation for 39 years before being decommissioned in September of 2005. It was named after the City of Duluth, Minnesota. Its primary mission was transporting ground forces with their equipment and vehicles to enemy shores and supporting combat operations in the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. It also supported Operation Unified Assistance delivering 210 tons of supplies to Sumatra and Sri Lanka after a tsunami devastated the area in December of 2004.
Captain Laurence Grimes, U.S. Navy (retired) built a scale model of the USS Duluth and is willing to donate it and a display case to the City of Duluth.
