RESOLUTION DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 7, 2017.

CITY PROPOSAL:
WHEREAS, on November 7, 2017, there was held in the city of Duluth, pursuant to the provisions of Laws of Minnesota, 1973, Chapter 281, a general municipal election for the purpose of electing certain city officers; and
WHEREAS, the judges of the election precincts in the city have made their returns of said election, and the city council, acting as a canvassing board, has duly canvassed said returns and ascertained the number of ballots cast at said election and thereby declared that at said election there were 15,819 cast ballots;
(a) That for the offices of councilor at large, Zack Filipovich received 8,749 votes, Barbara Russ received 6568 votes, Janet Kennedy received 6053 votes, Rich Updegrove received 5899 votes and 522 write-in votes;
(b) That for the office of councilor, second district, Joel Sipress received 1,934 votes, Ryan Sistad received 944 votes and 6 write-in votes;
(c) That for the office of councilor, fourth district, Renee Van Nett received 1375 votes, Howie Hanson received 1259 votes, and 18 write-in votes.
(d) That on the half percent sales and use tax dedicated to fund a street improvement program question there were 12,021 "yes" votes and 3,689 "no" votes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Zack Filipovich and Barb Russ, having received the majority of all votes cast at said election for the offices of councilor at large are hereby declared duly elected for terms of four years.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that Joel Sipress, having received the majority of all votes cast at said election for the office of councilor, second district, is hereby duly elected for a term of four years.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that Renee Van Nett, having received the majority of all votes cast at said election for the office of councilor, fourth district, is hereby duly elected for a term of four years.
