Title

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH THE ARROWHEAD LIBRARY SYSTEM MULTITYPE BOARD ALLOWING THE DULUTH PUBLIC LIBRARY TO BE A MEMBER AND HAVE ACCESS TO MULTITYPE LIBRARY SERVICES AT NO COST.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement, substantially in the form of that attached hereto as Exhibit A, with the Arrowhead Library System Multitype board, allowing the Duluth public library to be a member of the Arrowhead Library System Multitype and gain access to Multitype library services at no cost.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize an agreement with the Arrowhead Library System (“ALS”) Multitype board for membership in the ALS Multitype. ALS Multitype is one of seven state-designated multi-county, multi-type library cooperatives designed to foster cooperation between libraries of different types: principally public libraries, K-12 school libraries, and higher education libraries. ALS provides services to participating libraries that include professional development opportunities, operation of an inter-library loan and delivery service, and a system of communication for sharing information among member libraries. There is no fee for participation but the city agrees to contribute to the effectiveness of the cooperative by sharing resources, communicating with other Multitype member libraries, and maintaining its own library service levels.  The agreement may be terminated by either party with 60-day written notice. The Duluth public library board approved of this agreement at its meeting on November 28, 2017.
