RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AGREEMENT WITH AIRBNB INC. FOR THE COLLECTION OF HOTEL-MOTEL TAX.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement, attached hereto as exhibit A, with Airbnb Inc., a Delaware corporation, for services related to the reporting and collection of the city’s hotel-motel tax from independent bed-and-breakfast operations in the city using their booking services.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize an agreement with Airbnb Inc. for services related to the reporting and collection of the city’s hotel-motel tax on transactions with bed-and-breakfast operations in the city using the Airbnb computer platform for booking those facilities.
Airbnb offers a computer platform which B & B’s can use for booking their facilities on a major website rather than soliciting guests on a totally independent basis.
To better facilitate the successful operation of this network, Airbnb offers to report transactions which are subject to our hotel-motel tax, to collect the tax generated by each of the transactions and to remit the total taxes on all of the covered transactions to the city.
There is no cost to the City as a result of this service.
