RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE NEW CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF FORESTER, AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proposed specifications for the new civil service classification of forester (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on April 3, 2018, are approved; that said classification shall be subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Range 34, $5,115 to $6,014 per month. The proper city officials are authorized to execute and implement an agreement with the union to provide for employing one or more unit members consistent with this resolution.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The new classification of forester has been created due to ongoing forestry needs within the city. The city has been without a permanent forester since late 2016. This position will be expected to manage the urban forest management plan and associated programs. This will be accomplished through the coordination of the park maintenance forestry crew and associated tree work, boulevard, park and city tree management, tree inventory, hazard assessment, tree stock for planting and tree disease control plan oversight. The position is expected to have both work in the field and office environment. The position will replace a Parks Maintenance Lead Worker position that will soon be vacant due to a retirement. The pay range negotiated for the classification is Range 34, $5,115 to $6,014 per month.
