CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to submit an application to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for a managing ash for emerald ash borer in community forests grant in the amount of $30,000 for the purpose of completing an ash tree inventory for the city of Duluth.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City has the legal authority to apply for financial assistance and the institutional, managerial and financial capability to ensure adequate grant administration.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the grant application by the city to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for managing emerald ash borer in community forests. This grant will allow a thorough and faster inventory of boulevard trees. The lack of an efficient, precise, easily updated inventory has substantially hindered effective forest management. The tree inventory will focus on city-maintained boulevard trees and allow Parks Maintenance staff to evaluate the spread of emerald ash borer and prioritize specific trees, streets or neighborhoods for immediate action as well as build a flexible database to guide tree maintenance and management action into the future.
