Title

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A 2018 PIERCE 100FT AERIAL TOWER FIRE TRUCK FROM MACQUEEN EMERGENCY GROUP IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $1,375,000.00

Body

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to contract with MacQueen Emergency Group for the purchase of a 2018 Pierce 100ft aerial tower fire truck in an amount not to exceed $1,375,000.00, payable from 110-700-1420-5580 (General Fund, Transfers and Other Functions, Capital Program, Capital Equipment).

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the plan for financing the fire truck is through City reserve funds to be authorized by a budget amendment or, if the budget amendment is not approved, through capital equipment notes to be issued in 2019.

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the purchase of a 2018 Pierce 100’ heavy duty aerial tower fire truck to replace the recently damaged tower truck.

The previous tower truck, 1 Tower, is a 20-year old front line unit, which was scheduled for replacement in 2019. Recently, 1 Tower was extensively damaged by fire; current estimates to repair it are more than $75,000 and involve several weeks of labor, but the total damage may not be known until after initial repairs take place.  Industry standard for replacement of this type of vehicle is 10 years as a front line unit and 5 rears as a reserve unit.

It takes nearly a full year to build an apparatus of this size.  Ordering the unit by August 31, 2018, will allow the City to avoid a 10% increase in cost due to steel and aluminum tariffs.

This purchase is made under the H-GACBuy program approved by City Council on August 13, 2018 under resolution 18-0587R.
