RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE ADMINISTRATION AMEND THE LAKE SUPERIOR ZOO/FAIRMONT PARK CONCEPT PLAN APPROVED BY RESOLUTION 16-0168 TO MAINTAIN THE 2016 FOOTPRINT OF THE LAKE SUPERIOR ZOO AND TO EXPLORE OPTIONS FOR CONNECTING TRAILS LOCATED AROUND THE ZOO.

BY PRESIDENT HOBBS:
WHEREAS, after a series of public meetings held by the city council, the Lake Superior zoological society and the Duluth parks and recreation commission, the council approved the Lake Superior Zoo/Fairmount Park Concept Plan (“Concept Plan”) by Resolution 16-0168 on March 14, 2016; and
WHEREAS, the council would like the administration to explore options for linking trails in the river corridor below Grand Avenue to the trails above the Lake Superior Zoo without disrupting the operation of the zoo; and
WHEREAS, the Concept Plan envisioned reducing the footprint of the Lake Superior Zoo and Fairmont Park, the council now wishes to explore opportunities to preserve the 2016 footprint of the Lake Superior Zoo and Fairmont Park.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the council requests that the administration amend the Lake Superior Zoo/Fairmont Park Concept Plan to maintain the 2016 footprint (property boundaries) of the Lake Superior Zoo and Fairmont Park and the Lake Superior zoological society will work with the parks and recreation commission to explore options for connecting trails along the river corridor below Grand Avenue with trails located north of the Lake Superior Zoo.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to request that the administration amend the Lake Superior Zoo/Fairmont Park Concept Plan to maintain the 2016 footprint of the Lake Superior Zoo and Fairmont Park and explore options to connect trails located in the river corridor below Grand Avenue to trails north of the Lake Superior Zoo.
