RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE NEW CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF LATERAL POLICE OFFICER, AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proposed specifications for the new civil service classification of lateral police officer (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on November 2, 2018, are approved; that said classification shall be subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its police unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Range 326, $4,675 to $5,327 per month. The proper city officials are authorized to execute and implement an agreement with the union to provide for employing one or more unit members consistent with this resolution.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The new classification of lateral police officer has been created to help attract and retain talented, experienced police officers to the Duluth police department. Recruiting for police officers is becoming more and more difficult, creating this new classification will help attract experienced officers that hopefully want to spend their career with the city. The pay range negotiated for the classification is Range 326, $4,675 to $5,327 per month.
