RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of public information officer (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on January 22, 2019, are approved. This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its supervisory unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall remain Range 1085-1100, pay rate of $5,894 to $7,713 per month.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The existing classification of public information officer was revised to remove the police department language and allow other city departments to utilize this classification. This position will oversee and coordinate public information programs for city departments. It will develop publicity activities to heighten awareness for city activities, services, and programs, as well as develop and expand communication resources for outreach to the city and citizens using existing and new technology and media. Changes made to the job description included removing language that was specific to the police department and replacing it with language suitable for a citywide classification. There is no change in the pay range, which is Range 1085-1100, pay rate of $5,894 to $7,713 per month.
