RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE PAY RANGE FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF JANITOR I.

CITY PROPOSAL:
RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the pay range for the existing civil service classification of janitor I, the specifications for which were approved by the civil service board on July 9, 2013, and by the city council on July 15, 2013, as resolution no. 13-0377R (attached as Exhibit A), are approved. This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall change to Range 21, pay rate of $3,068 to $3,564 per month, from Range 121, pay rate of $2,857 to $3,311 per month.
Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The pay range for the existing classification of janitor I was revised to allow these employees to work 40 hours per week instead of 37.5. Per basic unit contract language, for pay ranges 116 through 142 the normal workweek is 37.5 hours; for pay ranges 14 through 39, the normal workweek is 40 hours. The pay range negotiated for this classification is Range 21, pay rate of $3,068 to $3,564 per month. This is a change from Range 121, pay rate of $2,857 to $3,311 per month.
