CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to contract with Boyer Trucks for the purchase of two 2020 Freightliner 108SD cabs and chassis in the amount of $170,134.00, and to contract with Crysteel Truck Equipment for the purchase and installation of plowing and sanding equipment for the same cabs and chassis in the amount of $206,608.95, for a total amount of $376,742.95, payable from 250-015-2019-5580, CE250-V1907 (capital equipment fund, public administration, fiscal year 2019, capital equipment; capital equipment fund 250, retro fit plow trucks - street maint).

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the purchase of two 2020 cabs and chassis, as well as outfitting them for snow removal and sanding operations.  These units will replace units 3359 and 3367.

The 2014-2015 Fleet Study found that, in order to minimize total City vehicle costs for purchase and maintenance, vehicles of this kind should be replaced when they reach 12 years old.  Unit 3359, purchased in 2005 for $147,812, is 14 years old and has incurred $223,000.34 (151% of its value) in maintenance costs to date.  Unit 3367, purchased in 2007 for $139,770.00, is 12 years old and has incurred $134,738.11 (96% of its value) in maintenance costs to date.

The cabs and chassis purchase is against Minnesota state contract 124637, release T-647(5); the outfitting purchase is against Minnesota state contract 120910, release S-863(5).  The purchase price is further reduced by the trade-in value of both units 3359 and 3367.
