RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION LEADWORKER, INCLUDING A TITLE CHANGE TO CHIEF BUILDING INSPECTOR, AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

CITY PROPOSAL:

RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the existing civil service classification of construction inspection leadworker, including a title change to chief building inspector (attached as Exhibit A), which were approved by the civil service board on May 7, 2019, are approved.  This classification shall remain subject to the city's collective bargaining agreement with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall remain Range 36, pay rate of $5,531 to $6,556 per month.

 

Statement of Purpose

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The existing classification of construction inspection leadworker has been revised (including a title change to chief building inspector) to include standard template language and better align with the recent reorganization combining the business & economic development and planning & construction services departments to form one department now called planning & economic development.  A primary addition to the job description is the inclusion of the following within the essential duties, "If designated, assume the duties and responsibilities of the state-designated building official for the city of Duluth as those duties and responsibilities are defined by Minnesota and any other relevant statutes."  There is no change in the pay range, which is Range 36, pay rate of $5,531 to $6,556 per month.
